All FAR Part 135 operators must have an SMS by May 28, 2027. The FAA expanded FAR Part 5 to require an SMS via additional guidance in Advisory Circular AC 120-92 for single-pilot organizations. An International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) mandate requires an SMS for operators of large and turbojet aircraft that operate internationally. This training curriculum is responsive to both FAA and ICAO perspectives and their supporting documents. These topics are part of an SMS.
Holders approved to conduct air tours are required to implement an SMS. The NTSB and the FAA encourage corporate operators to develop and implement an SMS. For operators of large and turbojet aircraft that operate internationally, the ICAO mandate requires an SMS. This training curriculum is responsive to both FAA and ICAO perspectives and their supporting documents. The modules within this curriculum meet the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) SMS training requirements as defined in Chapter 3. The Business Aviation Safety Consortium (BASC) standard NX 19 4.1 requires SMS training.
