The International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO), aka the Standard, has been streamlined and modernized in 2018. The International Business Aviation Council’s (IBAC) IS-BAO team went on a listening tour to gather feedback from operators and auditors. The IS-BAO Standards Board produced a significant revision based on the feedback and changes in industry best practices.

The 2018 IS-BAO may be used beginning July 1, 2018 and must be used after June 30, 2019. These dates recognize the scope of the 2018 revision. The implementation times have been extended compared to prior years to allow more flexibility for operators to gradually implement the revised Standard.

The 2018 Standard is available in draft form now. You may want to begin to build your plan for implementing the changes. One thing that will probably catch your eye is that the training requirements, which were previously spread throughout several chapters, have been consolidated into Chapter 8, Training and Proficiency.

As an IBAC International Standards Support Services Affiliate (I3SA), Advanced Aircrew Academy can advise you on IS-BAO training requirements and assist you with a training needs assessment. We can also provide the courseware you’ll need to conform with the Standard. Contact us at 843-557-1266 or info@aircrewacademy.com.
