Security

Security. We say it. We follow procedures for it. We train and test on it. As we pass more than 15 years since the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the sands of time have begun to blur our perceived need for aviation security. I admit I fall into that way of thinking as well at work sometimes. And then I visited the World Trade Center site in NY and the 9/11 National Memorial. More than 3000 people died that day due to lax aviation security. A few weeks later, I took my children to the Flight 93 National Memorial located in Pennsylvania. And I cried. I took my kids there, and of course it's a humbling experience for them but they were born after 2001 so it doesn't have as much relevance for them. We said we would "Never Forget." But we did. We let little security things slide all the time now, because we did forget. If you don't think business aviation is a target, you are mistaken. Terrorists have funding you wouldn't believe, and think about about what a coup it would be if a bizjet or helicopter was used as a weapon.

Follow your company security procedures, pay attention to things that don't look right, and follow the slogan "If you see something, say something."
